Prowers Medical Center’s Hospital
Auxiliary volunteers are such an asset to our community. Please join us in thanking them during National Volunteer Week, April 17 to 21, 2023.

The Auxiliary has 60 members who help out in various ways at Prowers Medical Center.

One visible contribution is their work in our gift shop. The Shoppe is staffed by Auxiliary volunteers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. A number of additional Auxiliary members contribute by handcrafting and donating many of The Shoppe’s items, ranging from needlepoint bookmarks to embroidered tea towels to scrubby pads for washing dishes.

This year the Auxiliary gift-shop team members—Lois, Jean, Wanda and Nellie—
are especially excited that Prowers Medical Center’s obstetrics department is back up
and running. “We love helping grandparents and new fathers pick out baby gifts,” Shoppe volunteer manager Lois Schroeder said. The Shoppe carries baby blankets crocheted by the Auxiliary women as well as baby clothing, stuffed animals, board books and much more. “I also want to thank Administration, the hospital’s Board of Directors, and everyone who has contributed to bringing such highly

qualified physicians, nurses and staff to the revamped OB team,” Schroeder added.

In addition to their work in The Shoppe and assisting patients and their family members in the main lobby, Auxiliary volunteers help out throughout the hospital. Examples include being there for patients in times of need, and helping with hospital community events, such as the Health Fair.

“Our volunteers are dedicated helpers, and they care about this community,” Schroeder said. “They realize how essential it is that
we have a hospital and clinic in Lamar. It’s important that we share all the positive things that are happening at Prowers Medical Center.”

Upcoming Fundraisers

The Auxiliary recently completed a See’s Candies fundraiser, raising more than $1,000.

This fall, look for them at the Lamar Community College annual craft show in November. They’ll be selling their homemade crafts and home-baked goods at several tables. And in December, you’ll find them at the Lamar Senior Center annual Craft Fair and Snow Goose Festival.

When you purchase items in The Shoppe or from Auxiliary fundraisers, you’re helping support Lamar Community College nursing

scholarships, the purchase of equipment
for various departments at the hospital, and community programs. In the past year the Auxiliary donated money to Lamar Ministerial Alliance, The Sparrow House and Lamar Hospice.
