If you know Andrea Crespin’s name, it’s probably for one of two reasons. First, she’s been working as an Operating Room Nurse and Monoclonal Infusion Therapy Nurse at Prowers Medical Center since 2018. And second, her husband, Kirk, is the Mayor of Lamar.
While at Prowers Medical Center, Crespin began working on her nursing Master’s Degree, choosing to pursue the Family Nurse Practitioner track. She graduated from Chamberlain University in April of this year and passed her FNP certification in May. And she’s been part of Prowers Medical Center Clinic’s primary-care team since October.
“I have been fortunate in my alliance with Prowers Medical Center, which allowed me to function in various capacities over the last few years, complete my Master’s Degree, and now work as a provider in the clinic,” Crespin said.

A Nurse for 20 Years
Crespin was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado where she earned her nursing degrees and worked for many years. From 2000 to 2018 she was employed by Parkview Medical Center. During her tenure there, she gained nursing experience in numerous departments, ranging from Medical Surgical and Orthopedics to Cardiac, Oncology and Pediatrics.
Her longest nursing stint was in Parkview’s Neurotrauma ICU, where she acted as charge nurse and oversaw the trauma team response and pediatric critical care response teams.
Crespin’s interest in nursing was sparked by personal experience. While in college as a Mass Communications major, she was attending her brother’s baseball game when a player was injured. “I felt drawn to helping him and realized I wanted to redirect my career,” she said.
Around the same time, Crespin’s mother became chronically ill with an autoimmune disease, requiring many appointments with numerous healthcare providers. “I wanted to better understand her disease and what the providers were telling her,” Crespin said. “And I also wanted a career in which no matter where I lived, I would be able to apply my skills and knowledge to help my community.”
Now a Family Provider
While Crespin cherishes the years she spent caring for critically ill patients in the ICU, she was ready to help patients with wellness. “As a Nurse Practitioner, I believe in offering holistic care to patients of all ages,” she said. “I’m also an advocate of preventive care and educating people about wellness habits to prevent long-term illness and devastating complications.”
In her new role, Crespin is looking forward to working toward the goal of impeccable health care for our region. She believes in listening to her patients and basing plans of care on each individual’s unique circumstances and input.
Next year, Crespin is planning to earn an additional certification as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She is already trained to care for people of all ages, including children, but with this extra education, she believes Prowers Medical Center will be even better equipped to provide exceptional care to our youngest family members and neighbors.
A Busy, Rewarding Life
The Crespins have four children ranging in age from 16 to 24. While Kirk fulfills his mayoral duties, Andrea supports him as the “first lady.” In their free time, the couple enjoys traveling, attending community events and visiting family members outside Lamar.
In her new role as a family-care provider, Crespin will get to know even more community members and hopes to become more involved in Lamar’s civic activities.
