Patients in Prowers County no longer have to leave town to receive high-level, quality orthopedic care. Prowers Medical Center offers these services close to home, thanks to visiting Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Ryan Carr.

Dr. Carr is dual fellowship-trained in shoulder, hip and knee surgeries, and he visits with patients on-site every other Monday. Based in Denver, he consults our orthopedic patients locally, developing treatments and performing surgeries alongside Physician Assistant Dan Klepacz. Also available to meet with patients for their orthopedic needs, Klepacz serves as a resource for local patients in between visits from Dr. Carr.

Orthopedic services help treat various issues of the musculoskeletal system, including issues with the bones, joints and muscles. By using the latest methods and techniques in healthcare, the goal of our orthopedic team is to help you get back to living an active, healthy lifestyle.

Don’t delay orthopedic care — appointments are available at Prowers Medical Center for patients of all ages. You shouldn’t have to live with your new or chronic pain.

“My goal is to bring big-city orthopedic services to you in Lamar,” Dr. Carr said. “The goal is for the program to grow as much as necessary to meet the needs of the community.”

More Orthopedic Offerings Than Ever

The advanced surgical suites available at Prowers Medical Center are designed to accommodate leading-edge surgical and visualization equipment — a premier working environment for orthopedic surgical teams. Private pre-op and post-op areas provide a comfortable surgical and recovery environment for our patients.

Dr. Carr has the experience to work on many shoulder, hip and knee conditions — whether a patient needs a full knee replacement or requires rotator cuff surgery. Other procedures he performs include joint replacement, advanced arthroscopic reconstruction surgery and fracture management.

Preventative care is encouraged by our orthopedic team, specifically, injury prevention. Dr. Carr discusses options with patients who are injury-prone, and tailors care to meet the patient where they’re at. Being proactive about your health can go a long way and could help you avoid surgery in the future. Dr. Carr said he focuses on conservative management of a patient’s condition first before surgery is considered.

“What’s unique about rural communities is they don’t tend to seek the medical care they need immediately; they show up when things are at the point in which surgery might be the only option,” he explained. “We exhaust conservative management and work with patients to get back to the high-level of activity they were able to do before their injury.”

Dr. Carr approaches patient care with transparency. As a long-time surgeon, he noticed a common complaint among patients was that some physicians don’t take the time to explain the details of the patient’s condition or injury. Dr. Carr reviews imaging studies with his patients and discusses findings with them in detail. He includes the patient in the decision-making process and ensures they understand what their expected recovery period is and what their rehabilitation process will look like.

“We’re there every step of the way to ensure you have a good outcome,” he said.

Dual-Fellowship Trained

Dr. Carr is a highly rated and reviewed orthopedic surgeon in Denver, the Front Range and across the state. He received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed his surgical residency in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at University of Illinois.

Dr. Carr is board-certified and dual fellowship trained, meaning he has an additional year of dedicated training under his belt to his particular areas of medicine. During his fellowships, Dr. Carr was exposed to several high-level, complex cases and learned from medical leaders within the specialties of shoulder, knee and hip.

His first fellowship was in shoulder care, followed by a traveling fellowship in advanced techniques in shoulder surgery. His second fellowship was in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee at the Colorado Orthopedic Research Institute in Denver.

Dr. Carr said he enjoys working with the Prowers County community and hopes to help more individuals who are experiencing shoulder, hip or knee pain.

“It’s rewarding to see how I can help patients get back to their activities and become pain-free,” he concluded. “This community is very gratifying and appreciative of the care provided to them, and that’s something that resonates with me as well.”
