Meet LaTonya Piker, Medical Assistant.

LaTonya Piker, has been a valued part of Prowers Medical Center Clinic – Orthopedic team for the past three years. LaTonya is a familiar and friendly face to many patients, often guiding them through some of the most important steps of their care. Her role as a Medical Assistant is both hands-on and diverse, and she takes pride in making sure every patient feels cared for from the moment they walk through the door.

Each day, LaTonya prepares patients for appointments, assists providers during minor in-office procedures, and helps ensure smooth and efficient patient flow throughout the clinic. When a patient requires surgery, she coordinates scheduling to support the surgical team, making sure everything is in place for their care. In the clinical setting, she applies casts, splints, and braces, administers injections and medications, provides wound care and suture removal, and takes vital signs and medical histories. She also performs basic diagnostic tests, ensuring providers have the information they need to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. It’s a demanding role, but one that LaTonya approaches with skill, dedication, and heart.

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, LaTonya is quick to answer. “My favorite thing about my job is patient interactions and making sure they are taken care of. They are my first priority.” Her words reflect the environment she values at Prowers Medical Center—one rooted in complete compassionate care and a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for both patients and staff.

Outside of work, LaTonya devotes her time to family. She loves being present at her kids’ sporting events, cheering them on from the sidelines, and making memories together. She also enjoys reading and attending her book club when she has the chance, finding it to be a fun way to relax and connect with others.

LaTonya’s experience speaks volumes. She has worked as a Medical Assistant for 10 years and also served as a phlebotomist for 7 years, bringing a depth of knowledge and a steady hand to her role in the Surgery Clinic. Patients benefit not only from her technical skills but also from her calm presence and caring approach.
