Radiology Technician Tammi Whisennand operates our new large-bore, high-speed MRI machine
Did you know that if your medical provider orders a CT, MRI, mammogram or other imaging test, the Prowers Medical Center Imaging Services Department offers the same state-of-the-art equipment and expertise you’d find in big-city imaging centers?
“We have the same equipment as a Level 1 Trauma Center,” said Larry Booker, Imaging Manager. “Our MRI suite, nuclear machine, DEXA scanner and mammography unit are equivalent to what you’d find in any full-service imaging center. Everything we have right now is as good — if not better — than what is available at larger hospitals.”
Images are read by experienced, board-certified radiologists at Plains Radiology Services, who deliver prompt, accurate reports back to the Prowers Medical Center ordering provider.
Imaging services at Prowers Medical Center are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and as needed for emergency care. Imaging technicians are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide scans in circumstances in which they are needed immediately.
CT Scans
The Imaging Department at Prowers Medical Center is equipped with a state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanning machine that can provide images as thin as half a millimeter, meaning the end image offers more detail than a traditional CT scan. This “snapshot” gives providers a clear and detailed look inside the patient’s body, helping to diagnose conditions accurately.
Mammography
Recent guidelines from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force say that women should begin getting regular mammograms every two years starting at age 40 if they are at average risk of breast cancer—earlier if they are at high risk.
Prowers Medical Center offers 3D mammography imaging. This technology is used to take multiple X-rays of a patient’s breast tissue to form a clear, three-dimensional image of the breast. A more advanced imaging test than traditional mammography, which only displays one 2D image of the breast, 3D mammography is used to help detect early signs of breast cancer. However, because all insurance plans may not cover 3D mammograms, it is recommended that you contact your insurance provider before scheduling an appointment for this exam.
Ultrasounds
Your ultrasound needs can easily be taken care of at Prowers Medical Center. Our updated ultrasound machines, purchased in May 2022, provide excellent image clarity. Ultrasound tests are commonly used in obstetrics but can also provide internal views of the breast, heart, blood vessels, gallbladder, kidneys, bladder, spleen, thyroid, liver, uterus and many other organs.
And More
The Prowers Medical Center Imaging Services Department also offers X-rays, stress echoes, nuclear scans, PET scans, DEXA (bone density) scans and more.
“We strive to stay current with all technology and imaging practices in the U.S.,” Booker concluded. “We want community members to know they don’t have to travel to receive high-quality imaging services. Continuing education is maintained by each of our imaging techs, and appropriate documentation is routinely reviewed to ensure proper process improvements are implemented., allowing us to provide any service you need.”
