Prowers Medical Center Auxiliary

We are gratified to be able to support many hospital services and initiatives. Over the past ten years, our fundraising efforts have purchased a number of items for the hospital, including an imaging table, a total gym, skillets for the kitchen, mannequins for respiratory team training, waiting room chairs, and earphones for office staff who do a wonderful job of multitasking while also serving clients.

This year we bought new bibs to be used while eating and reflective vests for our language interpreters to wear during trauma incidents so they can be quickly identified and approached when help is needed during a trauma emergency.

“On behalf of the Interpreters Committee, we want to give a special thanks to the Auxiliary for their purchase of our interpreter safety vests and for their support of our hospital and making our community a better place to live and work,” said Elia Trujillo, Language Coordinator. “During a trauma emergency, it is vital that healthcare providers, patients and external personnel understand each other, due to the complexity and devasting news that has to be given.”

We also continue to give scholarships to four second-year nursing students enrolled at Lamar Community College. This year we awarded $2,000, which was matched by a private grant. On March 18 we had the opportunity to enjoy lunch with the students. All were real bubbly and excited about their futures.

New members and new talent have been good for the Auxiliary and the gift shop. We currently have 60 members. If you’d like to join us, please come talk to me at The Shoppe or call 719-336-5723. Annual dues are $10. Nancy Eddleman is our current President and a great leader. We have lots of fun fellowship together.

Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., The Shoppe is run by a crew of faithful, dependable Auxiliary volunteers (Wanda, Jean, Mary, Nellie and myself), but all members contribute to its success. When you purchase items at The Shoppe or from our fundraisers, you’re helping support all our initiatives.
