Surgical Services

Prowers Medical Center's surgical services include all general surgical, laparoscopic or procedural interventions related to orthopedic, obstetrics, gynecology, ear/nose/throat, dermatology or other general surgery.

If your doctor has scheduled you for surgery or a procedure, you will need to contact the Surgery Department at 719-336-6760 to schedule a pre-operative interview appointment. At your appointment, the nurse will discuss several things with you:
Your medical history
The surgery or procedure that your doctor has scheduled
The type of anesthesia you will be receiving
What you will need to do to prepare for your surgery or procedure

Your medical history is very important. It allows us to prepare for your specific needs. We will also discuss your medications that you are currently taking and which ones you will need to take the morning of your surgery or procedure. It is very helpful if you make a list of the medications you are taking, how much you take, and how often you take them. If you are unable to make a list, please bring your medications with you to your pre-operative interview.

Surgery or Procedure
The surgery or procedure that your doctor has scheduled will be discussed in detail at your pre-operative interview. Patient education materials are also available for you to take home and review. If you have any questions regarding any phase of your visit, please ask the nurse. Lab tests, x-rays or other studies that your doctor has requested usually will be done at this time. If your child is the patient, we encourage them to tour the department and ask any questions they might have regarding their upcoming visit.

Anesthesia
Prowers Medical Center staffs highly trained Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA). The anesthesia department at PMC can offer a variety of services. We not only provide general anesthesia (put to sleep) but we can also do Epidurals, Spinals, Axillary Blocks, Bier Blocks and other types of anesthesia for all age groups.

We ask that patients wear loose-fitting clothes and ladies should try to avoid wearing makeup, jewelry and/or body piercing jewelry. Education materials on types of anesthesia are available if you would like additional information.
